Banjo Man and I have been watching a lot of movies and mini-series this past month. And we have a “watch list” we keep adding to.
Last night was this gem, A MAN CALLED OVE.
The book had been recommended to me months ago by a good friend, but I hadn’t gotten around to reading it. The movie was **wonderful**.
Here’s a blurb from the website “Rotten Tomatoes”:
Stepping from the pages of Fredrik Backman’s international best-selling novel, Ove is the quintessential angry old man next door. An isolated retiree with strict principles and a short fuse, who spends his days enforcing block association rules that only he cares about, and visiting his wife’s grave, Ove has given up on life. Enter a boisterous young family next door who accidentally flattens Ove’s mailbox while moving in and earning his special brand of ire. Yet from this inauspicious beginning an unlikely friendship forms and we come to understand Ove’s past happiness and heartbreaks. What emerges is a heartwarming tale of unreliable first impressions and the gentle reminder that life is sweeter when it’s shared.
It’s a Swedish movie with English subtitles. The acting was superb and the cat was terrific. We’re still wondering how they made a cat behave! Hilarious.
We rented it for 99 cents on Amazon. What a bargain!!!
Let me know if you’ve seen it and what you thought.
We saw the movie and I am reading the book for the second time. Think I’m enjoying it even more the second time around!
I’m going to order the book now. Can’t wait!
So, I got really excited when I thought there was a really terrific cat in the movie…till I realized it must have been the “cast” that was terrific! LOL!
No, it’s a CAT!!!!!! A very funny cat that acts like a dog.
