$1000 boots

Poor Banjo Man.  He thoughts these Lucchese boots looked really good on me, until we both saw the price.

$999.99

It was fun to pretend I still wanted to buy them.  Seriously?  We’ve spent much less on cars.

Time to buy a Powerball ticket…

It is always fun to tease Banjo Man.

the really good long day, part 1

The day started in Lockhart, a town that calls itself the “BBQ Capital of Texas”.

Here are the BBQ Adventurers:

2013-03-13 003

George, Will, Jack and Banjo Man

They are standing in front of the legendary Kreuz Market, which opens for business at 10:30 AM. We were the second car in the parking lot.

2013-03-13 002There are rules here on the BBQ Trail.

2013-03-13 006

2013-03-13 020Delbert McLinton once ate here.  I was impressed.  Obviously.

2013-03-13 004Banjo Man had other things on his mind.

Like ribs, beef shoulder, sausage, smoked turkey, beans, bread, crackers and potato salad.

I ate ribs. The best ribs of my life.

2013-03-13 011And the very best 99-cent banana pudding in the universe.  Here is the empty bowl: 2013-03-13 024I’m not sure why Gene Autry’s suit was on display, but perhaps you’d enjoy seeing it mounted on the wall. 2013-03-13 022Beautiful tailoring. 2013-03-13 023We waddled out of these door about an hour and a half after we arrived.  But we were not through with BBQ yet…. 2013-03-13 025

an emmy lou afternoon

Emmy Lou Harris at Waterloo Records day show.

Emmy Lou Harris at Waterloo Records day show.

2013-03-15 026

Emmy Lou Harris and Rodney Crowell

I wish it wasn’t midnight so I could tell you all about the “day show” at Waterloo Records.

There are times in one’s life where standing in a parking lot, in 86 degree heat, with a purse full of water bottles, is great fun.

My daughter-in-law, Amber, agreed.  She was waiting for Raoul Malo  (I’m sure I’ve spelled his name wrong.  Sorry, Amber) at 5 PM and I was waiting for Emmy Lou Harris and Rodney Crowell at 6 PM.

We arrived at 1:45.  Bless our hearts.

I bravely stood in line for the Porta Potty at 4:15.

We ate ice cream at 4:40.

Amber stood in line for Raoul Malo’s autograph at 5:40.

My feet stopped aching when Emmy Lou sang.

Then we went out to dinner and drank margaritas.

THE END

boots, boys and barbeque

We’re in Texas, but due to computer difficulties (online access is iffy) I can’t tell you  much about it.  I’ve taken some cool pictures, but you’ll have to take my word for it.

I bought some cool boots, but you’ll have to take my word for it.

I’ve listened to a jammin’ bass player, but you’ll have to take my word for it.

I have a very handsome grandson, but…well, you know.

I’ll get this solved soon,  I hope.  Then I can show you pics from the SXSW techno portion of the festival and some signs that struck me funny.

You know how much I love signs.

Wish me luck with this internet thing…

Love from Texas,

stalled

This time I didn’t get out of Rhode Island soon enough.  I was lucky to miss Sandy in October and Nemo in February, but this latest storm?  We’re waiting this one out at home, having delayed our trip to Texas for a few days.

We’re waiting for the snow and the rain and the high winds to stop before we venture into the air.  Banjo Man balks at the thought of sleeping in the Baltimore airport or braving a foot of snow to get to a hotel room.  Been there, done that.

This little guy is waiting to show his new truck to Banjo Man.

2013-02-15 038

And I have a few new trucks in my suitcase.

Tonight we will probably lose our power again.  But we have a plan:  peach margaritas (blended ahead of time, before the 60 mph winds knock down the rest of the damaged trees), candles and some serious practice time with the violin and banjo for a day or two.

dump concert 131

My mother is tone deaf, so she’s heading to the Hampton Inn.

To each his own.

impossible to resist

I cannot–CANNOT–resist an odd-shaped baking pan.  My good buddy (Writer Pat) sent me an email with a link to a cowboy boot baking pan for sale on ebay.

I’m on it.   I’m the highest bidder.   The auction ends later today.
I’ll keep you posted.

EDITED TO ADD:  I WON IT!!!
