There’s an old song that goes…
“I want to go back to Rhode Island, where the rhododendrons grow. Where the sun comes a-peepin’ into where I’m-a-sleepin’, and the songbirds say hello.”
I’ll bet you’ve never heard it!

I lust.
I yearn.
I study the daily emails from Traeger.
I want to grill and smoke and watch those little pellets automatically feed into the fire. I only want a little one. I want to smoke a turkey and make ribs and slow-cook roasts.
Banjo Man doesn’t get understand.
Sigh.
The “Outback” is pleased to announce the 2nd Cousins Weekend Reunion (the 1st was Nancy’s wedding)!!!
No one could ever accuse us of being trendy. So please don’t laugh because we recently discovered “Game of Thrones”. Now we’re trying to make our way through Season One before we have to return it to the library.
We love it!!! Are we the last ones to discover this tv series????
My Texas daughter-in-law often surprises me with unusual treats, such as giant chocolate covered strawberries, Italian sodas, soaps that look like food, and now grapefruit-flavored vodka (made in Austin).
We decided that it was very, very good.
Cheers!
I finally remembered to unpack my camera and put it in my purse in order to take photos from the plane. There were so many times during my three travel days where I wished my camera wasn’t packed in my carry on bag and stored in the bin above my seat. But before I stepped onto the plane in Baltimore, I made sure I had my camera.
I picked a seat by the window, in the back of the plane, so I’d have a good view. I usually do that, with or without a camera, because I love to see what we’re flying over. If Banjo Man is with me, I make him stop reading and guess where we are.
Block Island is a popular tourist destination, known for its beaches and biking. I’ve never been there because I’m afraid I’ll get seasick on the ferry. And I can eat seafood and walk on the beach right here in my own neighborhood.
You can’t see our house in this photo, but it’s not far away, on the bottom left corner of the picture.
The bottom island is Jamestown, once considered a haven for pirates. The top island is Aquidneck. Take a right when you exit the bridge and you are in historic Newport , one of my favorite places in the state.
Yes, there are lobsters in there.
Bruce Bishop and Beth Pedersen play every Sunday afternoon in downtown Hope. And even on Mother’s Day!
I spent the afternoon listening to great music with Dancing Mandolin Player and her Boyfriend Bob. We ate banana bread and enjoyed the fact that it wasn’t raining.
The music continued later on that evening, with band practice up on the mountain with the Cougar Creek band.
Heaven = Playing Music With Friends.
Heaven, Part II = sharing a potluck dinner with friends after playing music together.
(p.s. the lap steel was rockin’! I now have hope that I’ll get the hang of this thing eventually!)
I spent a couple of hours on the beach yesterday. It was warm enough, with a sweatshirt on, to bask in the sun and enjoy the quiet. As you can see, the lake is still low and there is a wide swath of beach to enjoy. I’d hoped to see fish and arrowheads (definitely a long shot), but found a rusty spike and goose droppings. And a “skipping rock” for my grandson, who will someday learn that skill from Banjo Man.
In a few short weeks the family will gather again, and the dock will be happily crowded with chairs and towels and sisters and aunts and uncles and cousins and hopefully a third generation, too. Banjo Man will make everyone laugh with his recollections of life on the farm.
Definitely something to look forward to.
I’m counting the days.
